Do we know? Do we know what it feels like to lose everything? Perhaps some of us do. Many of us don’t.
If I allow myself to ‘go there’ for just a moment, I can scarce fathom the experience of living through typhoon Haiyan.
But then I imagine what it would be like if someone were to assure me that in the midst of my tragedy there is hope. That there are thousands of faithful people praying for me and my family, motivated to bless me by the God who is love. And those people are taking it further…they are giving of their resources to help nobody me. And those resources are being poured into organizations that are working hard (as if it were their own family) to restore my life, to rescue me from my desperate circumstances.
I think that would go an awful long way to demonstrate the pure love and compassion of Jesus to me if I were in that situation.
Right now others are…in that very situation. And our King has called us to represent Him, and to reflect His heart…
Today may we remember the precious souls in the Philippines. May we pray fervently for them as if they were our own family or friends? May we seek God’s heart and consider supporting those who are being His hands and feet to the broken and the hurting?
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. Luke 6:31
